Dec. 4 (Bloomberg) -- Chile had its first month of deflation in November since February 2007 as fuel costs plunged. The country’s consumer prices fell 0.1 percent last month, compared to a 0.9 percent rise in October, the National Statistics Institute said in a report released in Santiago today.

New Mexico without a chile crop is unthinkable. Yet according to a recent Headlight story, harvested acreage has dropped from 37,000 acres in 1993 to only 11,000 in 2007. At this rate, the last chile farmer will quit in 2015. It is not because people have stopped eating chile. Demand exceeds supply.
